Nomenklatura. At the website of The County Administration of Södermanland and in an interview of Södermanlands Nyheter, we can read that Södermanlands County Chief Bo Holmberg will quit his job in this just-south-of-Stockholm-province by the end of June.
Prime Minister Göran Persson has created a special position for him – Director General in the Swedish Government Offices (Ministry of Finance). There Mr Holmberg will be responsible for the development of cooperation between the five counties, and its municipalities, surrounding Lake Mälaren, i.e. Stockholm and Mälardalen.
- Stockholm-Mälardalen is the only region in the country that can produce growth for all of Sweden, says Mr Holmgren, also a former minister and MP.
Hey, Mr Holmgren did you ever hear of Scania??? Or the Öresund integration of Scania and the Copenhagen area? Or Europe of Regions?
If this guy seriously thinks that Stockholm-Mälardalen is the only region in Sweden that can produce growth strong enough to give results also outside its own territory, he is obviously the wrong person for any top level position. And if this region is so strong, why is there a need for a special Director General inside the government offices? What about regional democracy? Or should we conclude that the Swedish government actually IS the true body of regional democracy in the Stockholm area?
The conclusion for Scania is clear: the government cannot be trusted and Scania is in desperate need for true regional autonomy in order to escape the Stockholm nomenklatura.
